Our History
From our humble origins back in the 1970s, we have steadily grown into becoming the region's leading gas service provide, currently offering comprehensive cost-efficient services to over 6,000 properties in Shropshire alone. In almost forty years, we have added a variety of complimentary services to our portfolio, such as fireplaces, stoves, oil, drainage and electrical work.
The Early Years
Shropshire Gas was founded by Malcolm Carter in 1979, based near Market Drayton. The company was the first in the region to rival British Gas, and to develop ‘Service Care’, a central heating and boiler breakdown insurance cover plan. During our early years we took and responded to 400 service calls. Today we take and respond to 400 service calls every week. That’s how much we’ve grown, and a testament to our continuing success. It’s what allows us to continue providing stellar gas engineering services at low prices.
14 years later we were recognised with a commendation for 'outstanding performance' following a Comprehensive Performance Assessment by a government audit commission. We were rewarded with a new five-year contract with ‘Severnside’ as their preferred partner, and we were selected twice as the preferred contractor for Meres and Mosses Housing before achieving full partnership status.
Further challenge came from demand in the private sector. In 2011, Shropshire Gas relocated its head office to Telford.
With our continued success we expanded further, we employed a dedicated team of specialists in every aspect of heating services. They worked well together and secured our title as the region’s leader in gas, oil and multi-fuel heating services.
This allowed for rapid expansion into the entire Shropshire homeowners market and working contracts for property and estate agents, private and social landlords, and even the national insurance companies Domestic and General and Aria Assistance, as well as the energy company Eon.

We are accredited by the Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS). and all of our gas engineers are encouraged to consider the safe option at all times.
Whether they’re installing a boiler or liaising with other contractors, we’re always considering the needs of our customers whether they’re elderly, children, people with special needs or anything else.

Training
We take pride in our ability to provide young people and new entrants into the industry with a route in to long-term employment in a progressive gas maintenance company.
The Community
We also engage in a number of charitable activities in Shropshire via the Shropshire Gas Charity Initiative. This has raised and donated many vital funds for community organisations and associations over the last 24 years, with the aim of changing the lives of young people through direct charitable donations plus additional support in covering the initiative's administration expenses.
The company directors want to change the lives of young people through direct charitable donations. We also cover the management expenses, administration and stationery. The price of everything is negotiated, so if it can be obtained for a lower cost or even free, it will be, so that every pound raised goes towards making lives better.
